I want to start sharing my writing, but some of the things I wrote are just so emotional it would be like letting people see into my heart. Do you get that feeling? And if so, does it ever go away?

Yes, I get that feeling so often. I still get it now, but it was worse in the beginning.

But that feeling can be a good thing-“like letting people see into my heart.” Letting people see into your heart through your writing is the truest, best thing you can accomplish in writing.

Don’t be afraid. Your words will resonate with others so deeply, though it may be hard for you to believe that now.

I want to tell you a quick story: I was talking to a boy the other day at my school. He was talking about creative writing class, which we are both in, and in this class, one of the projects is to share a favorite poem with the class.

He read “Ships That Pass in the Night” by Paul Laurence Dunbar out loud to his class. He told me that he almost started crying when he read this poem out loud, simply because it moved him so much. We both agreed that reading poetry and sharing it with others is a very emotional thing.

So don’t ever underestimate the impact your words can have on people-they have the power to touch people so deeply that it stains their soul with the color of your heart.

And that, if I may say so myself, is a pretty damn beautiful thing.
