Please let me know if what I’m about to say helped you any. I’d like to know if my tips would help others or not. :D
Hello! According to my archive, I started this blog at the end of December 2011. Thank you for being a fan. :)
And hey, you’ve only been on here for what, four-five months? I probably had around the same number of followers as you when I was four-five months into my writing blog. 87 is more than you realize. That’s 87 individuals who care enough about your words to follow them daily. That’s 87 individuals who are enthralled enough with your words to want to keep reading them.
In the beginning, I was happy if I got three notes on a single writing post! Any amount of notes is something to be proud of, quite honestly. I’d say you’re doing very well for only starting up a writing blog a few months ago.
As far as tips go, it helps a lot to search out other writers on tumblr and learn from their styles and techniques. Identify things they do that you admire and try to incorporate those things into your own writing. Learn from them.
(You can find a list of wonderful tumblr writers here: http://writingsforwinter.tumblr.com/writingblogs)
Then try to connect with these other writers-it really, really helps to do collaborations with other tumblr writers. All you have to do is shoot them a quick message asking if they want to write with you sometime, and if they say yes, it’s an awesome learning experience that can also draw more attention to your blog.
Also, depending on the tumblr writer, you could also ask them to read over your work and give feedback or critiques, or ask them for just a few general tips on writing. While I stopped giving feedback on work about a month ago because I simply got too many requests daily and was overwhelmed by the amount of time I had to spend on each request, other writers may feel differently. It all depends on who you ask.
Other than that, try to turn out at least one piece a day. Posting daily is a great way to keep your blog updated, and will allow your pieces to spread through the blogosphere (is that a thing??) more quickly, and they’ll reach further.
Practice, practice, practice by writing as much as you can. Also, try new things, like 6-word stories or short bits of dialogue or prose pieces. Mix it up; your followers will like that and you’ll gain new ones that way too.
So, to recap: be proud of what you’ve accomplished already! Explore other tumblr writers’ work and learn from them. Connect with them; do collabs with them. If you want to, ask them for advice or feedback. Write daily. Try new things in your writing. Take risks.
But most of all, have fun! Being a tumblr writer is a very, very rewarding experience.
I hope that helped! :)
