Of course! I think you can probably interpret Hemingway’s six-word story in several ways.
The way I interpret it is that a couple are selling a pair of baby shoes because the woman had a miscarriage, so of course the baby shoes were never worn or used.
But you could also interpret it as the baby dies soon after she gives birth, or the couple decides to put the baby up for adoption-in both cases the baby shoes would never be worn or used.
Does that make more sense now? :)
