I need to come up with a motivational quote for school, and I was hoping to use something of yours, because your writing speaks to me. I was wondering if any of your poems came to mind, and how I should credit you. thanks!

I have some more recommendations, also. I’m not sure if any of these are what you’re looking for, but I hope so! You can also just credit me as Meggie R, please. :)

“You will have a heavy heart some nights, the kind of heart that takes more than a few professional weightlifters to heft up onto their shoulders. This is not always your cross to bear. So stick a needle in your heart and let some of the pressure out; listen to it deflate like a balloon and revel in the new feeling of lightness appearing in your chest. It’s alright to take a break from your own heartbeat sometimes, to turn the power button off and just soak in some silence once in a while.”

“But most of all, you are allowed to stop when you need to and take a breath. Breathe in. Breathe out. Go on.”

“Those broken people you see every day? Their brokenness is a ladder and they have to start climbing it. Rung by rung, hand over hand, until the very top. But don’t haul them up with a pulley; let them do it by themselves. And when they reach the top, hand them a nice cold glass of water and slap them on the back, say, Glad you could make it.”

“But someday someone will hold your dark in their palms

like the bones of a bird, and they won’t be scared

one bit of what you’ll do with it.”

“And there are going to be some days when you feel like

breaking every dish in the cupboard, or smashing the mirror to pieces,

but honey, everybody has days like those, and that doesn’t mean

you’re a paper doll, something flimsy and tearable

and too easily thrown away.”

I hope my daughter marries the only person she ever loved. And I don’t care whether that’s a boy or a girl or somebody inbetween. But she’d better love them more than she ever loved anybody, myself included. “

“Now here’s what you tell someone who wants to commit suicide, and this will be the simplest word of all, but the most difficult to say: Stay.”

You wanted to kill yourself.

I didn’t let you.

End of story.”
