Do you believe that there are people out there just incapable of doing what you do with words no matter how hard they try? I've been looking at your poems, but I myself am not a poet. I'm a noobie writer, who wants to appeal to people with words, but I feel as if all I'm doing is conveying messages in a very plain, dull way. Would you say that simplicity isn't appealing? Sometimes my ideas seem too shallow, too simple, comparing to what others can do.

I don’t believe that anybody is incapable of doing “what I do.” All I do is write directly from the heart. That’s it; that’s all this is. It may be harder for some people to write without inhibitions like that, but I do think it’s possible for every single person, even if it takes time.

I would say that simplicity is appealing. Have you read any of Charles Bukowski’s work, or Billy Collins’ work? They both write very, very simple and plain-to-understand poetry, but all their poems tug at the heartstrings and have complex meanings hidden within them.

Simplicity, in a sense, is actually very sophisticated. There’s something beautiful about people who are able to express complicated thoughts in spare prose and poetry.

So I wouldn’t worry about your ideas seeming too simple!
