It's been approximately 2 years since I can't write much. I rarely finish (or even start) any writing, and when I do I don't feel accomplished because I know I won't be able to write in the day after, or even 2 hours later. I don't know what's wrong. I never know what to write about, and when I do I don't know *how* to write it. It's like I've completely forgotten how to write. Or never knew how to do it to begin with. What do I do? It hurts so much, because I used to love writing.

I feel like sometimes if you’re having so much difficulty with something you used to love doing, and if you no longer enjoy it, then maybe that’s just a sign that you should leave it in your past.

But if you really do have your heart set on writing again after two years, I think you should start out with some simple writing exercises instead of forcing yourself to immediately delve into prose or poetry.

If you force yourself to do lengthy writing or writing that involves a lot of thought, inspiration, and effort, then that might make it much harder for you to enjoy writing.

So maybe you should start instead with something like writing haiku or six-word stories. You could also choose one object and write a single descriptive sentence about it, and keep revising that sentence until you feel like it fits that object perfectly.

Then you could expand that idea by writing about the object as if you were teaching someone who is blind and deaf what the object is. And pretend this person has been blind and deaf their whole life: they have no idea what colors are or look like, or what sound is, or what the difference is between round and square.

Another simple exercise would be to watch TV and write down one line you hear, then write a one-paragraph story based off of that line.

If you start off with simple, quick writing projects like those instead of forcing yourself to write lengthy prose or poetry pieces, writing will probably come back to you a lot more quickly and easily.

And who knows, maybe you’ll enjoy those projects so much that you’ll want to keep doing them, and because of that, your love for writing will come back full-force, and then you can write some prose and poetry again!

Best of luck. :)
