Any advice for a teenager wanting to become a writer ?

The best advice I can give you is this: writing isn’t about being labeled as a writer. Know that. That’s not the goal. You’re already a writer if you put pen to paper, pencil to paper, fingers to computer keys. You’re already a writer if you love what you do.

Focus on the words, not the label. You are who you are and the title “writer” won’t change that. More attention should be put on the process than the destination.

Oh, and write about what genuinely confuses you, terrifies you, shocks you, disgusts you, makes you anxious, makes you love so incredibly, makes you burn, makes you ashamed, guilty, exhausted, hopeful, incredulous.

Don’t write about what makes you comfortable.

Get to it!
