I am a guy and I am in love and no one ever believes me because there is this mythical tale that men do not love as women love, but I love just as much, if not more. Then my "manhood" is tried and because I love, I cannot be a man. They taunt and they laugh and I take it "like a man" in public, but become fragile in the midst of loneliness. I am ashamed of love and I wish that I didn't. I love and I always lose. I'm always up for battle, but I can never finish the war.

That mythical tale is one of the most ridiculous and tragic things I have ever heard. And yes it’s true that men can love women even more than women are capable of loving men. There are some wonderful romantics out there with hearts full of longing. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous that you would be taunted simply because you’re in love. If everyone who is in love were taunted, we’d have an entire world full of miserable, lonely people.

Don’t ever, ever, ever be ashamed of love. Nothing about love is shaming. Because you love, you’ve shown a piece of your soul, and there is nothing wrong with that. And maybe one day someone will appreciate seeing that piece of soul, and will want to capture it and keep it safe in a glass jar like a firefly. And that’s when you’ll have won the battle and finished the war.

So don’t take all those silly words to heart-and remember that perhaps those who taunt you are the very ones who long to feel love most.
