I want you all to know that I edited my “here’s what you tell a person who wants to commit suicide” prose piece in order to make it sound less blaming and more gentle. I received some comments that it sounded like I was making the suicidal person out to be selfish, or that I was being selfish by trying to force them not to kill themselves.
That was never my intention. I realize now that I could have written that piece more thoughtfully, and in a softer light. I’m truly sorry if I offended anyone with the piece, and if there is anything else I can do to make it better, please don’t hesitate to tell me.
The best thing you can do for a suicidal person is to listen to them, and let them know they are loved. I edited my piece, adding in a few paragraphs, to try and reflect that. I hope that helped.
Again, I apologize for any hurt or confusion I may have caused. I can’t apologize enough. I am truly sorry.
