I’m digging a hole for your body so I can bury you like treasure in the ground.
And who knows, maybe years later my heart will find its way back to you again.
As a child, my mother used to read me a children’s book that went like this:
Adam loved Eve and Eve loved Adam, and even that apple tree
couldn’t tear them apart.
But then how do you explain the fact
that Ian Curtis once sang Love, love will tear us apart again?
Maybe everything we ever thought we knew is a lie.
Maybe we’re only figments of our own imagination,
aimless souls floating in the emptiness of space
with only passing satellites
to remind us of our own existence.
Let’s pinch ourselves until we bleed just to know
that we’re not dreaming.
Because some day, we’re all gonna be lost and lonely
and misunderstood, and someday,
we’re all going to have to look for that treasure map
that will show us the x that marks the spot
for the person we once loved.
