It means that two human beings who love one another sometimes still have to hide that love simply because they are the same gender. And I’m straight, but no one can ever make me believe that love between two people, girl & girl, or boy & boy, is wrong. I’ve always been so upset by the inequality, rudeness, and cruelty that so many people have shown gay couples and individuals. It’s ridiculous.
Plus Schrodinger’s thought experiment, in which the cat could be regarded as simultaneously alive and dead at the same time, in a way relates to the experiences of gay couples or individuals because of the violence inflicted upon them historically. There are many men and women who have been killed simply because they were gay or transgender, etc. (Brandon Teena, for example), and in some sense they could almost have been regarded as being simultaneously alive and dead. Simply because they were attracted to people of the same gender, which brought them great danger and sometimes even death. That may sound like a stretch, but to me it made sense.
The woman in “quantum physics for the lonely woman” had to show her love for the other woman in the bathroom of the office because it was too dangerous to do it in the open. No one can tell me that is fair; she had every right to show her affection in the open.
And I know things are changing now; people are becoming more open than they used to be, but we’re still far from where we need to be with gay rights.
