I have been writing a story where the entire story is told by the main characters & referred to as 'I' instead of her name because it's HER story- but now there is a 3.5 year flashback and it still feels strange to use 'I' as it was long ago and it's not HER story still, it's just flashing back (this isn't making much sense, I'm sorry). What should I use? It would seem unwelcome to suddenly use her name instead of 'I' but also it feels strange to use the 'I' at this place in the story too :(

Mmm…tough situation. Maybe you could just use “I” with past tense for the entire flashback? I’m really not sure.
